*** Edward Lundquist Wins 2006 Award of Merit
from Society for New Communications Research
[Springfield, VA, Nov. 1, 2006] – The Society for New Communications
Research has named Edward Lundquist of Springfield, Va., as the
recipient of the 2006 Professional Award of Merit. The Society’s awards
program honors innovative organizations and professionals who are
pioneering the use of social media (i.e., blogs, wikis, podcasts,
collaborative tools and other forms of participatory communications) in
the areas of marketing, public relations and advertising, politics,
entertainment, academics, and community and cultural development. In
addition to the Professional Award of Merit, awards in academic and
business categories were also presented at the Society's inaugural gala
at the Colonnade Hotel in Boston, held November 1.
As the creator, publisher and editor of the Job of the Week newsletter,
Lundquist manages a network of more than 10,000 communication
professionals.
“Lundquist’s network of communicators exemplifies the mission of this
awards program: the successful and innovative use of new communications
solutions and social media practices to enhance communications and
relationships,” commented Mike Manuel, SNCR Best Practices committee
chairman.
“I reach out to people using the technology of the Internet,” Lundquist
says. “But I’m not about the technology. I’m about making deep and
meaningful connections for people.”
“Ned Lundquist’s network has evolved into a worldwide community for
communicators, a virtual gathering place to share resources and stories,
a sounding board where experienced and new communicators alike can get
answers to their questions, share stories and commiserate together about
the challenges of the profession,” says Uma Thangaraj, marketing
communications specialist for Portage Health in Hancock, Mich.
“This network is the truest example of a virtual community, with a real
heart and soul,” says Judy Heise, publicist for the Naval Institute
Press in Annapolis, Md. “Ned’s tireless devotion as founder and editor
of this free weekly newsletter
with a current subscriber base of 10,000+
and growing daily
since 2001, is one of the best examples of altruism at
its most basic and finest levels.”
Lundquist is a senior science advisor with Alion Science and Technology
in Washington, D.C., and serves as a strategic communications consultant
for the U.S. Navy’s Surface Warfare Directorate. He is a retired U.S.
Navy captain. He is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee,
Wis., and earned a master’s in journalism and public affairs from The
American University in Washington, D.C. He is an Accredited Business
Communicator.
Award nominations were submitted as case studies, and reviewed by a
panel of ten judges, including SNCR research fellows, advisors, members
of the SNCR Best Practices committee, vendor council members and
representatives from the Society’s organizational affiliates. Awards of
Merit and Awards of Excellence were presented in three categories,
including: SNCR Professional Awards, honoring leading new communications
thinkers, bloggers, journalists, citizen journalists and professional
communicators;
leading work/research/studies from students and academic institutions;
and the SNCR Business Awards, honoring organizations that are
successfully adopting new communications models and leveraging them in
innovative ways for business purposes.
The winning case studies are posted on the Society’s blog at www.newcommreview.com
