*** KISSS (Kommunicators in Search of a Special Someone):

Every so often I review the events of my life to see what I've

learned. My way of measuring “accomplishments” is pretty

idiosyncratic, and I'd like to give you an example of what I mean. I

was a coin dealer early in my career, and made good money at it. But

after a while I needed to explore life a little more, and see if

there was more to it than satisfying the needs of collectors and

speculators. When I was a social worker at a homeless shelter, much

later on, and saw how frugally some people had to live, I learned

that money and things are good only as they make life better. I

learned to appreciate what I had. To me, gaining that sort of

perspective was an accomplishment. When my marriage broke up, and I

began to reflect on it, I began to see that I was to blame for a lot

that went wrong. I had to own up to doing certain things I wasn't

very proud of. That was a tough one, I have to admit.

I've usually gone for what some new experience could teach me, even

when unsure of the outcome, rather than choose the path of least

resistance. As a result of that, when I think of the kind of woman I

want to get involved with, I don't think much about your material

accomplishments, your possessions, the status you've attained to, the

letters after your name. I just don't measure the worth of another

human being that way. I like to give you the room you need to be who

you are. You're not applying for a job, and neither am I. What I do

care about is the effort you put into giving whatever it is that you

have to give, and the degree to which you leave yourself open and

vulnerable to the joy and pain that's part of getting involved. Just be real.
