Position Overview: The Department of Strategic Communication in the J.
William and Mary Diederich College of Communication at Marquette
University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor
with a teaching and research concentration in corporate communication
and public relations. Opportunities for leadership also exist within the

The Diederich College includes majors in advertising, broadcast and
electronic communication, communication studies, corporate

million gift from the Diederich family has made possible renovations of

Essential Functions: Successful candidates should be able to teach

• Promote the delivery of the right message, at the right time, through
the right channel – in part by advising individuals at all levels of the
organization regarding the most effective means of achieving their
communication goals
• Create strategies and develop content to strengthen employees’
understanding of the business of healthcare (e.g., key performance
indicators), industry regulation and reform, and Inova’s strategy for
building the future of health
• Ensure all internal communications are aligned with and connected to
the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values
• Demonstrate individual initiative and sound judgment to proactively
address internal clients’ needs, de-escalate conflict and facilitate
cross-departmental solutions
• Manage internal communications channels, such as e-newsletters, print
publications and Inova’s intranet
To qualify for consideration, candidates must have:
• a bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communications, English, Journalism
or a related discipline, with significant professional copywriting and
communications experience
• a minimum of 5 years of experience in employee and/or internal
communications; previous experience in healthcare strongly preferred

building relationships at all levels of an organization

Position Description:
The Immigration Campaign Director is responsible for implementing a
nationally coordinated campaign with FIRM member organizations focused
on building the power and capacity of the immigrant rights movement and
achieving state and federal policy change. The ideal candidate is a
self-starter, experienced organizer, good manager, and strategic thinker
capable of producing consistent quality work in a fast-paced
environment.
This position reports to: Executive Director or Managing Director
Principal Responsibilities:
– Represent CCC and FIRM with national allies and coordinate
institutional relationships
– Serve as primary staff person of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement,
a project of CCC.
– Build and nurture relationships with local, state and national
immigration organizations across the country, and assist in promoting
collective action on common agendas, specifically field strategies to
win comprehensive immigration reform
– Supervise and mentor the CCC’s Immigration Team staff.
– Develop and implement fundraising strategies (online, small donors and

– Five to ten years of organizing experience with community-based,

– Familiarity with immigration reform issues in the United States,
including federal comprehensive immigration reform, the DREAM Act, DHS
enforcement policies, and state and local immigration initiatives is

level, including experience with national campaigns to secure policy

– Familiarity with online technology (email/sms/mobile tools) and

Duty crew at aft mooring deck onboard a berthed bulk carrier noticed two
robbers trying to open the port life raft. He reported to D/O who raised
the alarm and crew mustered. Upon seeing the alert crew, the robbers
dropped the life raft into the water, jumped overboard and escaped empty
handed by jumping on the pier. Crew managed to recover the life raft and
brought it back onboard the ship in open position. Port control
informed.
25.05.2012: 0355 LT: El Dekheila Outer Anchorage, Egypt.
A fishing boat was seen drop anchor to the stern of a bulk carrier at
anchor. Duty A/B remained near the stern during his watch. Later the C/O
noticed two robbers armed with knives near the forecastle lowering ship
stores. Seeing the robbers with the knives the crew waited until the
robbers had departed before going forward to investigate. It was noticed
that teh hawse pipe cover was removed and the paint store padlock was
cut using a hacksaw blade.
17.05.2012: 1530 LT: Off Talicud Island, Philippines.
A tug towing a laden barge departed from Sasa port, Davao City at 1400
LT at slow speed heading to Thailand as port of destination. After 90
minutes of departure, the duty crew noticed 10 small boats surrounding
the barge and around 30 pirates boarded the barge, stole and transferred
the cargo to their waiting boats and escaped. Incident report to
Philippines police.
22.03.2012: 0003 LT: Posn: 22:15N – 091:44E, Around 3.9nm of Patenga
Point Light, Bangladesh.
Robbers armed with knives boarded an anchored tanker, stole ship stores
and escaped. The incident was reported to coast guard who immediately
despatched high speed boats which searched the waters and caught three
robbers and recovered the ship stores within 2.5h hours.
27.05.2012: 2355 LT: Posn: 02:17.0S – 079:54.1W, Contecon Guayaquil
Terminal, Ecuador.
Four robbers armed with knives boarded a berthed container ship during
formality inspection by the immigration and customs department. Duty
bosun noticed the robbers boarding the vessel from seaward side using
ropes and hooks. One of the robbers was proceeding aft towards the
accommodation. Bosun reported to Master and Chief Officer via the walkie
talkie and alarm raised. On seeing the alert crew the robber on deck ran
towards the bosun waving his knife. All the four robbers jumped
overboard and escaped with their three accomplices waiting in the boat.
Port authority informed and a coast guard boat was dispatched to search
the area.
24.05.2012: 0020 UTC: Posn:04:02.9S – 039:38.7E, Berth No. 8, Mombasa
Port, Kenya.
A robber armed with knife boarded a chemical tanker at berth during
cargo operations. The robber attacked the duty officer on deck rounds,
injured him, stole his personal belongings and escaped. Master reported
to port police and agent who boarded the vessel for investigation.
23.05.2012: 1300 UTC: Posn: 12:45N – 043:18E, Bab El Mandeb Straits, Red
Sea.
Pirates in three skiffs approached a bulk carrier underway. Master
raised alarm, informed UKMTO and alerted the armed security team
onboard. Weapons sighted on the skiffs when they closed to 300 metres
from the ship. The armed security team fired warning shots resulting in
the pirates aborted the attempted attack and moved away.
23.05.2012: 0900 UTC: Posn: 25:29.6N – 057:16.8E Around 28nm WSW of
Bandar-e-Jask, Iran, (Off Somalia).
D/O onboard a general cargo ship underway noticed a group of 10 skiffs
at a distance of 2nm from the ship on the stbd side. The forward skiff
broke off from the group and approached the ship at a speed of 20-25
knots. Master and security team informed. Alarm raised, fire hoses and
SSAS activated. UKMTO and navies informed. The ship increased speed and
commenced manoeuvring away from the skiffs. As the skiffs closed to
500meters the armed security team fired warning shots. The skiffs
ignored the warning shots and continued to approach aggressively and
weapons were sighted on the skiffs. As the skiffs closed to 300meters
the security team once again fired at the skiffs and it was noticed that
the skiffs returned fire towards the ship. Eleven additional skiffs were
sighted on the port side advancing towards the ship. As the security
team fired warning shots these skiffs stopped and moved away. The skiffs
on the stbd side continued to chase the ship and then after around 12
minutes from the initial approach the skiffs moved away towards a large
dhow in the vicinity. No damages and no injuries to crew.
12.05.2012: 2100 LT: Posn: 01:14.58N – 104:08.43E, Around 4nm NNE of
Pulau Batam, Indonesia.
A barge under tow enroute from Singapore to Kelanis, Banjarmasin,
Indonesia was boarded by robbers using a wooden tug. VTIS Singapore
informed the Master that a tug was following his barge. Upon
investigation Master saw a wooden tug moving away from the barge. The
crew boarded the barge and found 13 containers opened. Incident reported
to MPA Singapore.
18.05.2012: 2000 LT: Posn: 25:20.9N – 057:34.6E (Around 25nm South of
Ra’s-e Jask, Iran), Off Somalia.
Three skiffs chased a crude tanker underway and approached close to the
stern. Alarm sounded, authorities and nearby warship contacted. Later
the skiffs aborted the boarding and moved away.
