The assistant director, development communications is responsible for managing communications projects and materials primarily in support of all fundraising initiatives and campaigns. Qualifications:

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) is seeking a Director of Communications and Media Relations to join its team.

 

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Director of Communications and Media Relations will manage the NYRA Communications department.  The Director will develop and implement integrated corporate communications and media strategies, with primary focus on corporate affairs.  These include but are not limited to: Board Meetings, Governmental Affairs and Corporate Finance Communications.  The successful candidate will author media materials (Q&A, talking points, fact sheets, etc.) for use at meetings and conferences, webcasts and other events, and develop emergency and crisis communication plans. In addition to managing and coordinating all activities related to media coverage of NYRA events and major races, the Director will specify planning assumptions for the department budget.

 

The Director must possess a college degree in Communications, Journalism, English or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus), and at least ten years of strategic PR/Communications experience.  Experience working in Corporate Communications and/or Governmental Affairs required.   Knowledge of thoroughbred racing is desired. The successful candidate must be available to work at all three NYRA Racetracks (Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course for 7 weeks during the summer), as well as to work holidays and weekends.

• Strong time management and organizational skills

• Demonstrated and proven ability to work with children, parents AND other coaches.

• EXCEPTIONAL communication skills.

• Minimum physical requirements: able to gain access to various areas of the UYA for prolonged periods during events; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.

• Possess very high degree of discretion and professionalism.

• Professional image and demeanor.

• Strong ability to work well with co-workers in a team environment.

• Must have proven success in coaching, supervising and working with individuals at various skill levels.

• Must have the ability to accept and carryout assigned instruction or program responsibilities.

Around 17 pirates armed with AK47 rifles attacked, boarded and hijacked an offshore supply vessel underway and tried to use it as a mother vessel. The vessel was released on the 11.2.2013 with no injury to crew. Ship stores and equipment were stolen and some communication equipment damaged.

Robbers in a wooden boat approached a berthed bulk carrier. One robber boarded the ship, broke into the forward store and stole ship’s stores. Duty crew noticed the robber and raised the alarm. The robber escaped with the stolen stores.

Two robbers armed with long knives boarded an anchored chemical tanker using a portable ladder. Duty A/B noticed the robbers and informed the D/O who raised the alarm, sounded ship’s whistle and informed the port control. The robbers immediately jumped overboard and escaped empty handed upon hearing the alarm and seeing the crew alertness.

Three robbers boarded an anchored chemical tanker. Alert duty officer noticed movement on the forecastle deck and raised the alarm. On hearing the alarm and seeing crew alertness the robbers were seen jumping overboard. Upon investigation it was discovered that ship stores were stolen.

Twelve heavily armed pirates approached, fired upon and boarded an offshore supply vessel underway. Alarm raised and most of the crew retreated into the citadel. The pirates caught and kidnapped the C/Engr and Master and escaped with ship’s and crew cash and personal effects.
