Pitzer College, located in the beautiful city of Claremont on Southern
California, seeks a talented and experienced individual for a temporary
positions as Special Events Planner for our Office of College Advancement and
our 50th year celebrations.
Founded in 1963 as a member of The Claremont Colleges consortium, Pitzer

interdisciplinary learning, and student autonomy. With an enrollment of
approximately 1,000 men and women, Pitzer has been recognized as one of the

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This is a temporary, part-time, staff position that
will work 19 hours per week for approximately 12 months. This is a
limited description of the duties/responsibilities. For a full listing,

incumbent will:
1. Provides oversight, leadership and expertise to plan
effective relationship-building, fundraising and donor recognition events.
2. Schedule and facilitate department meetings to
strategically plan, coordinate and evaluate events.
3. Assist in maintaining the department calendar for
internal communications.
4. Ensure that events follow an established standard of
excellence, quality and protocol. Assist with collateral materials (e.g. place
cards, name tags, signage, etc.).
5. Manage event production process (e.g. conduct event
consultations, facilitate production meetings).
6. Develop and manage event budgets; assist with
reconciliations, billing and payments.
7. Plan, produce and flawlessly execute various events.
8. Build partner relationships, negotiate and manage
corporate rates and contracts for travel, premiums, gifts, etc.
9. Oversee of major campaign and donor celebration
logistics.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to
work with high professionalism in a diverse community of alumni, students,
faculty, parents and staff.
2. Excellent written and oral communication skills in
English, both in person and by phone.
3. Excellent organizational and event planning skills.
4. Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented
environment.
5. Proficient knowledge of MS Word, Excel and
PowerPoint. Knowledge of HTML and Raiser’s Edge preferred.
6. Ability to drive (e.g. off-campus events).
EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree, or any combination of
education/training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills
and abilities.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years related experience, preferably
in development, events or communication in a college environment or closely
related area. Work experience gained during college years may qualify.
LICENSES: Valid California driver’s license and a driving record
acceptable to the College’s insurer. Must be able to provide own transportation
for local travel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is generally a sedentary position. Must
be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and the manual dexterity to
operate a computer for prolonged periods of time. Ability to stand for
prolonged periods of time, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist,
stretch, lift up to 40 pounds from ground to waist level without assistance,
and work on feet for prolonged periods of time. The final candidate will
be required to successfully pass a post-offer physical capacity test.
