***  Overseas jobs:

Ned,

I hate to bother you, but I have a question about some of your listings.  As someone who would very much love to live in London, I find your listings for jobs there tantalizing.  I don’t know if it’s always true, but most require you to be a UK/EU citizen and/or have rights to work in the UK to even apply.  Given your list (I am guessing) mainly goes out to Americans, do you know what the motive behind the postings of these UK job is?  Are they actually willing to sponsor employees who don’t currently have a visa but can’t say so? Or is it a shot in the dark?  I just can’t understand why they would bother to post a job if 99% if the audience for this advert are not eligible?, and wonder if you have any insight into that.

Thanks,

JO

(Ned’s reply: I try to include postings from around the world because I want to make JOTW global in scope.  I find many of these opportunities surfing myself.  Most of those UK positions are not sent to me.)

***  From Nancy S. Voith, APR:

Evening, Ned.

We are helping a client source a new VP of Marketing and Communication role, which reports into the EVP/COO.  Great organization and very committed to the difference a strong marketing/brand/communication professional can make to their strategic plan.  Short description is below with directions for how to apply.

Thanks again for your service to our profession.  Word of your site is spreading.  Someone brings it up to me at least once every couple of weeks.  Thought you’d want to know.

Nancy

41.)  VP – MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION, Financial Services Institution, Tennessee

The VP of Marketing and Communication position reports directly to the EVP & COO and has broad and total responsibility for all marketing, brand and communications strategy, planning and delivery for the entire institution.  High-energy, persuasive and experienced candidates who have a 15+-year holistic marketing, brand and communication background and have financial services experience, particularly in the regional and large community banking space, are ideal.  The top candidates will have a track record of forming, leading and mentoring a team that is able to extend its influence and impact beyond on-paper expectations.  This VP will immediately be credible and peer-like with her/his colleagues and the entire executive team, quickly becoming the “go to” leader for market-making and reputation decisions.

Based in Tennessee, this opportunity is truly a “career-defining role” with a high-growth leader that is #1 in its space and offers a welcoming/accountable/collaborative culture.  This VP will be a part of the senior leadership team that drives the institution’s charge for high innovation and bringing major market approaches to an attractive and iconic mid-market arena.  The client is targeting growth on a number of fronts, including becoming part of the state and national conversation regarding regional financial services institutions and how this client could be playing in the larger banking picture for both consumers and small business.

In addition – a few things you should know that make this role even more appealing….

The VP reports directly into the COO and will:
·      be a prominent voice on the COO’s leadership team
·      drive the company’s overall marketing and brand direction
·      guide the institution through an upcoming rebranding campaign
·      determine new and customized products and markets to pursue
·      guide and integrate the brand through M&A activity in selected regional markets, as needed
·      become part of a collaborative culture led by a highly energized, visionary and charismatic CEO
·      be a key influencer in how and where the institution “places its bets” – as part of a 3-year strategic plan
·      advocate for broader actions on the state and national stages
·      lead a team of six marketing and communication professionals and manage several agencies

And, probably most importantly, the VP must be someone who ultimately wants to be a strong and credible guide for an organization that desires and values a marketing and communication strategist.

Financial Services experience is required.

The company wants to move aggressively and has retained us to help them source the strongest candidates.  This is a tremendous role with an exceptional legacy institution that has redefined its role in the current market and is looking to do so on the broader state and national stages.
