***  Out for Blood

The pursuit of life for the wounded on the fighting fronts of World War II

by Anastasia Kirby Lundquist

Blood and plasma may be the greatest gift of the “Greatest Generation”-their life’s blood given back at home for the wounded on the fighting front. They sent more than a million pints to war! And we will never know how many men and women walk the world today – or will do so in generations to come – because the life of a father or grandfather was saved by one of those gifts of a blood donor during World War II.

A radio show called Life to the Front, broadcast weekly over WEEI, the Columbia Broadcasting System’s New England network outlet in Boston, helped keep alive the connection between the home front and the fighting fronts.

Each week the broadcast was dedicated “To all the men of the armed forces of the United States… who – on every fighting front in the world – daily risk their lives in the service of their country……that they might live.”

Out for Blood includes first-hand accounts of actual participants in some of the war’s toughest battles, and features actual scripts from Life to the Front.

46.) Fundraising consultant, SCAN, Alexandria, VA

SCAN of Northern Virginia is looking for a fundraising consultant with experience using SalesForce for Nonprofits in a 1-person Fund Development office. The organization recently converted to SalesForce for our constituent database and needs some assistance selecting from among the many features it offers to prioritize those that make sense and assist with systematic cultivation of individual and corporate donors given the limited time available to a staff person who also must manage grant proposals and special events. Do you know someone with experience using SalesForce for Nonprofits with a small nonprofit? We already have a SalesForce expert who can customize the technology for us. We are looking for someone who can coach our Development Director in selecting from among features, prioritizing, and developing business systems that coordinate with the technology to maximize our fundraising effectiveness. Consultants with this background should email soniaq@scanva.org with information about their experience using Salesforce for Nonprofits, their fundraising consulting experience, rates, and references.

Thank you for forwarding this to anyone who might have these qualifications or know someone who does.

Hi Ned!

The attached job post – a Westchester County estate seeking a “domestic couple” – would be a fun listing under the JOTW alternative-jobs listings. The compensation, based on two people, is not huge – but it isn’t bad either!
