PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Corporate Messaging and Issues Management – Identifies and stays abreast of corporate and business unit priorities and initiatives, as well as the issues, topics, and trends that impact the organization. Critical & Crisis Communications – For Critical Communications, consults with and counsels business partners and clientfacing groups to ensure effective, accurate, consistent and legally-approved communications to impacted clients. Develops communications plans and researches and writes FAQs, talking points, client letters, and other materials. Helps lead process execution and identifies ways to enhance and streamline the process, and to measure impact. Serves as a project manager for cross-functional data breach and other crisis communications planning, ensuring processes and materials are kept up to date. Liaises with outside PR firm and researches outside activities and trends for opportunities to incorporate new thinking into and influence our efforts. Develops and executes strategies for socializing plans with business partners, and makes refinements as needed.

 

Media Relations – With a focus on corporate items, as well as shared services topics such as human resources and technology, plays an important role in protecting the firm’s reputation and building brand awareness through the media. Builds positive media relationships and responds independently to press inquiries, coordinating responses with appropriate internal parties as needed. Serves as corporate spokesperson on enterprise and shared services topics using broad knowledge of the firm and its overall strategy, the issues facing the organization, our investment capabilities and related services, and business unit strategies. Partners with communications leads and works closely with shared services business unit leaders on the development of PR plans/ strategies. Writes press releases, pitch letters,

bylined articles, and social media content. Arranges press interviews for business unit/corporate subject matter experts, negotiating their participation as needed. Proactively identifies story opportunities and pitches relevant story ideas to the media. Provides support as needed to investments, personal finance, and distribution related media inquiries. Researches news coverage to support interview/meeting prep, strategic planning initiatives, and other corporate and business unit projects. Conducts online research, analyzes news coverage/clips, reads through various priority outlets to identify relevant reporters, and researches editorial calendars.

 

Project Management & Communications Counsel – Serves as a project manager and communications lead for shared services communications programs that support various change initiatives and/or the enterprise rollout of new services/ processes. Develops strategic communications plans and counsels business partners on appropriate communications tactics. Challenges the traditional Corporate Communications thinking by bringing innovative ideas and topics to the table. Makes recommendations on how the department can work smarter, more efficiently, and more effectively, including via social

media outlets and the development and implementation of digital strategies.

 

Measurement and Reporting –For corporate PR and communications, ensures proper objective setting, outcome tracking and analysis, effectiveness and impact measurement, and reporting.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred

– Experience working with asset management or financial services organizations

– Demonstrated knowledge of the investment management industry and familiarity with markets, investing, and personal finance issues such as retirement

– Three to five years of corporate communications/public relations/investor relations experience

– Experience with issues management and/or crisis communications

– Knowledge of the human resources and/or technology fields

– Experience with data analytics, particularly related to media tracking/metrics

– Familiarity with financial data and reporting

– Knowledge of and interest in personal finance and investing

Required

– College degree and 2 years of related work experience, or Associate degree and 4 years related work experience, or High School diploma/equivalent and 6 years related work experience

– Excellent oral and written communication skills

– Strong personal presence and demonstrated ability to build relationships with and influence managers and other business partners

– Proven project management capabilities

– Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with an ability to synthesize data, develop insights, and recognize compelling stories

Armed pirates attacked and hijacked a product tanker enroute from Lome to Bata. The Owners lost communication with the tanker and reported to the IMB Piracy Reporting Centre who in turn notified the authorities in the region. It was reported that the pirates shot and seriously injured one crew member. Before escaping the pirates damaged the communication equipment and kidnapped five crew members. The remaining crew members managed to sail the tanker to Benin where a navy patrol boat assisted in the evacuation of the injured crew member. The tanker was then escorted to Cotonou anchorage for investigation.
