How to Post a Job on This Website
Your Job of the Week listing can be posted in the next issue (Monday morning), along with the other 50 to 100 job opportunities. The newsletter will then be posted here at www.nedsjotw.com. To submit a job, send the listing to lundquist989@cs.com. Include the job title, company or organization, location, and how to respond, reply or apply. This is a free service.

If you want to immediately push your job listing-–by itself--out to the network of more than 11,000 professional communicators, I can send it out as a “Can’t Wait” posting for $300 for highest impact and instant results. “Can’t Wait” postings are also posted here on this website, and can also be posted in the next newsletter for maximum exposure. This gives your posting the highest impact.

Again, listings should include job title, organization or company, and a location. A brief description is optional, and a really long description is frowned upon. Include a link, contact info or specific instructions for a candidate to follow-up.

If you are not already a member of this network, please subscribe by sending a blank email to JOTW-subscribe@topica.com.

If you are submitting a job on behalf of your employer, I should remind you of the optional suggested policy that recommends you consider perhaps sending a company ball cap, shirt or coffee mug, maybe, perhaps. I’m thinking XL.

View Article  JOTW Rock and Roll Trivia Question for April 13, 2009
The nucleus of this American band began in Columbus , Ohio, but moved to Boston because the music scene was a better place for new bands to break into the business. They performed as Milkwood , Richard and the Rabbits, and even backed up comedian Martin Mull and his Fabulous Furniture. Eventually they came together wuth a new band and a simple name, "It's so easy to spell; it doesn't have a 'z' on the end; it's real authentic. It's pop art, in a sense." They caught a break when a DJ on WBCN played their demo, and from that airplay came a record deal. Their debut album was #18 on the Billboard top 100 in 1978. One music critic said "they have taken some important but disparate contemporary trends—punk minimalism, the labyrinthine synthesizer and guitar textures of art rock, the '50s rockabilly revival and the melodious terseness of power pop—and mixed them into a personal and appealing blend." Their most successful single, which came out in 1984, gained particular notability when it was used in a video of the Ethiopian famine prepared by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and introduced by David Bowie at the 1985 Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in London. Some of the members of this band are no longer with us, and others have had solo careers since the band broke up. While there hasn't been a reunion tour, a few of them still tour along with Todd Rundgren doing their famous songs (I know, everyone tours with Todd Rundgren doing their famous stuff).   more »

While this artist was part of a pre-punk underground-breaking group, he is best known for his solo career. As a youth, he received electroconvulsive therapy to discourage his homosexual feelings. During his career he has worked with musicians such as J. J. Cale, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, David Bowie and Mick Ronson, and has been categorized as "Glam Rock."

Never mainstream, one of his double albums was nothing but album guitar feedback (by placing guitars in front of big speakers, the sound would vibrate the strings) played at different speeds. One side of the double LP ended with a closed 1.8-second loop that repeated itself until you picked up the needle.

He still tours, with gigs this month in NYC with his trio.   more »

This band's name refers to Australian Aborigines sleeping in holes. This band had 13 gold albums and recorded 21 Billboard Top 40 hits, seven of which went gold, and three U.S. number one songs. From 1969-1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits, moved more records, or sold more concert tickets. This band enjoyed major success covering songs by other artists such as Randy Newman, Laura Nyro, Hoyt Axton, and Elton John and Bernie Taupin, as well as a hit from a musical. As recently as 2008 they were still performing 85 concerts a year. They performed this past weekend at the Moondog Coronation Ball in Cleveland.   more »

The origins of this band moved up to a fusion of hard rock and a classical symphonic sound, and a new name, with the "new" band covering a song popularized by the original group. And as the new incarnation gained popularity, it cut the strings from it's formula and picked up a more mainstream pop sound. The band's first Dick Clark TV appearance featured a Chuck Berry classic. The group had 20 US top 40 Billboard hits, and sold more than 100 million albums, but never had a number 1 hit. The creative force behind this band later teamed up with Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Ray Orbison.   more »

Seven of the first eight albums by this southern rock band went gold, and two of them platinum. To date they have issued more than 30 albums (including Greatest Hits and Anthology sets). The band got their break when the opened for Wet Willie. Overnight they went from packed-out clubs to packed-out coliseums. Their debut LP sold 500,000 copies and went gold. Charlie Daniels has played fiddle on several of their songs. Two of the founding brothers in the band died tragically. Another founding member dies of cancer two years ago. This musical glam rock oddity has been a trend-setting force in music for five decades, although his career has zigged in different directions. He has co-written songs with John Lennon; collaborated on several albums with Brian Eno; joined with Queen for a hit single; shared an apartment with Iggy Pop; starred in Elephant Man on Broadway; and recorded a duet with Bing Crosby a month before the crooner passed away. When the lead singer for this band died, the band members thought he was irreplacable. Out of nowhere came a guy who sounded just like the former lead singer, but who had no experience in performing. "The biggest crowd he had ever sang in front of was forty people at a karaoke bar in a bowling alley." With their new lead singer, this band still performs. The group's founder and creative genius had been a senior product engineer with Polaroid when he laid down the original demo tracks mostly by himself at his home.
