JOTW 09-2024

March 4, 2024

The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 2,033

“A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

– Dr. Seuss

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  Welcome to the JOTW network!

You are one of more than 5,800+ members in the JOTW subscriber network.

This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.”  JOTW is a cooperative service.  That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you.  We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities.  We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other.  What a concept.  Did I mention it’s free?

***  To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.   Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.

***  Posting a job is free.    Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free.  Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free

I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat.  I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure.  Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less).  “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100.  Just send to me at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This is a cooperative service.  It relies on your participation and contribution.  As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about.  This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.

***  To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com and request to join the JOTW listserv.  If you received this as an email from neds-job-of-the-week@googlegroups.com, then you are on this list.

***  This week’s Can’t Wait postings:

None this week

***  Can’t Wait jobs:  These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website.  Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Can’t Wait postings cost $300.  Contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This week’s Top Job:

None this week.

Top Jobs:  Stand above the rest.  Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Top job placement costs $100 per job per week.  To be on top, contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (lundquist989@cs.com),   and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2024/03/04/jotw-09-2024/

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

None this week.

***  Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com.   You can pitch yourself or your business any way you want, as long as it’s short and to the point.  You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list.  Or, if there is, the queue is pretty short.  And it’s free!  Submit yours today!

***  Showcase Your Expertise with Professional Certification

As a communication professional, you’ve made a career out of continued learning and growth within the communications field. Now, show off the expertise you have honed by earning professional certification through the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC).

The Communication Management Professional (CMP) and Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP) certifications will set you apart from the crowd and give you increased recognition and other benefits in the workforce.

Don’t wait: explore your options today.

The GCCC’s purpose is to create and maintain an internationally recognized standard of communication excellence based on a global understanding of key principles and job competencies worldwide. The GCCC’s Communication Management Professional (CMP) and Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP) certifications are the only certifications in the world that meet ISO standards (ISO/IEC 17024).

The GCCC recently conducted a survey amongst communication certificants, sponsored by #WeLeadComms. Take a look at the results of that survey here.

Ned –

Hope this finds you well! First off, a very belated thank you for this newsletter, through which I found my current position at Systems Planning and Analysis, just over a year ago! Our strategic comms team is continuing to grow, so I wanted to share two more positions available.

I’m currently filling in on the first position and supporting the second, so I’m happy to answer questions about the roles and company. Both require an active secret clearance; the AUKUS role is based at the Navy Yard, with the other role open to remote options (or ability to work from SPA’s Navy Yard office).

Please contact me with questions about these positions at- melissa.nilles@spa.com or melissa.a.nilles@gmail.com.

The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 2,032

“Nothing is more despicable than respect based on fear.”

– Albert Camus

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2024/02/26/jotw-08-2024/

JOTW 07-2024

February 19, 2024

The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 2,031

“We are all here on earth to help others; what on earth the others are here for I don’t know.”

– W. H. Auden

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2024/02/19/jotw-07-2024/

3.)  Press Secretary, Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), Boston, MA, or one of CLF’s other offices (Concord, NH; Montpelier, VT; New Haven, CT; Portland, ME, Providence, RI)

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking a Press Secretary to support the mission of the organization by developing and implementing strategies to increase the organization’s visibility in a highly competitive media space.

The Press Secretary monitors fast-breaking news, helps develop the organization’s response to relevant news developments under tight deadlines, and leverages opportunities to promote CLF’s advocacy, expertise, and thought leadership to news decisionmakers and influencers.

This full-time, exempt position reports to the SVP of Communications and Marketing. The position can be based in Boston, MA, or one of CLF’s other offices (Concord, NH; Montpelier, VT; New Haven, CT; Portland, ME, Providence, RI).  There is also some opportunity for remote and flexible work within the region. There may be light travel within New England depending on where the person is based for media training or editorial board meetings.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop strategies for keeping CLF experts and advocacy issues front and center in a competitive media space
  • Translate CLF’s complex issues into digestible soundbites and talking points for reporters, producers, decisionmakers, and external and internal stakeholders
  • Conduct regular media trainings and prep CLF experts for interviews and other external appearances
  • Draft press releases, talking points, speeches, op-eds, development advocacy reports/factsheets, and other external collateral for reporters and stakeholders
  • Setup regular press briefings and/or editorial board meetings between news editors, CLF President and other advocates. Prep CLF staff for these briefings and attend when available.
  • Maintain strong relationships with reporters, producers, bloggers, podcasters, columnists across New England and nationally
  • Provide periodic media analysis for reports to Board, President, and other stakeholders;
  • Contribute to CLF’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

What you’ll need:

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Strong writing and editing skills;
  • Experience translating technical, scientific, or and legal language into accessible stories that resonate with reporters;
  • Experience writing and placing op-eds in national and local publications;
  • Ability to quickly turnaround press releases and statements under intense deadlines;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

About CLF:

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) protects New England’s environment for the benefit of all people. A non-profit, member-supported organization, CLF uses the law, science, and the market to solve the region’s most challenging environmental problems, from climate change to ocean conservation to transportation. Every day, CLF advocates stand up for New Englanders—in statehouses, courthouses, boardrooms, regulatory hearings, and community gatherings—to forge innovative paths to environmental progress and economic prosperity for all in our region. To that end, CLF frequently works with communities of color, and those that are economically or otherwise disadvantaged, which often suffer disproportionately from the impacts of environmental degradation.

CLF is committed to representing New England’s diversity in our staff, volunteers, boards, and membership and creating a positive, inclusive workplace culture where all can thrive. People of color are encouraged to apply.

Salary and Benefits

CLF offers a competitive salary, an extensive benefits plan, and an open, inclusive, and accepting work environment where differences are highly respected. The starting salary range for the position when based in Boston is $88,000 – $103,000 and $79,000 – $92,000 when based in a CLF office outside of Boston; actual salary will reflect experience and qualifications.

We recognize the value of work-life balance and also strive to create opportunities for growth for all employees through professional development.

CLF considers the health and safety of its staff members and their families, our guests, our visitors, and the community at large to be a top priority. All offers to work, intern, or volunteer with CLF are conditioned on the candidate complying with CLF’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy.

*** Trail/Outdoor/Conservation job opportunities:

***  From Marisa Bright-DeLoatch:

Good morning,

Kindly see the attached exciting job announcement with the Conservation Law Foundation.  We would very much like to advertise with the JOTW.

Thank you,

Marisa Bright-DeLoatch

Recruitment Coordinator

1.)  Press Secretary, Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), Boston, MA, or one of CLF’s other offices (Concord, NH; Montpelier, VT; New Haven, CT; Portland, ME, Providence, RI)

  • Provide periodic media analysis for reports to Board, President, and other stakeholders;
  • Contribute to CLF’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

What you’ll need:

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Strong writing and editing skills;
  • Experience translating technical, scientific, or and legal language into accessible stories that resonate with reporters;
  • Experience writing and placing op-eds in national and local publications;
  • Ability to quickly turnaround press releases and statements under intense deadlines;

“One of the advantages of being disorganized is that one is always having surprising discoveries.”

– A. A. Milne

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2024/02/12/jotw-06-2024/
