JOTW 46-2017

November 13, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,728

“All are lunatics, but he who can analyze his delusion is called a philosopher.”

– Ambrose Bierce

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Beverly Hills, California.

***  Welcome to the JOTW network.

This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.”  JOTW is a cooperative service.  That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you.  We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities.  We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other.  What a concept.  Did I mention it’s free?

***  Our Google Groups list is now at 5,548 members!

***  To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.   Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.

JOTW is sent out on Mondays by email with a list the jobs posted in the full newsletter, which is posted online at www.nedsjotw.com.  This is designed to keep the size of the emails to a more manageable length.

***  The position descriptions and or follow up information on links to the jobs can be found at www.nedsjotw.com.

***  Posting a job is free.    Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free.  Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free

I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat.  I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure.  Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less).  “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100.  Just send to me at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This is a cooperative service.  It relies on your participation and contribution.  As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about.  This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.

Be advised that I am transitioning away from Topica and relocating the list with Google Groups.

***  To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com and request to join the new listerv.  If you receive this as an email from neds-job-of-the-week@googlegroups.com, then you are on this list.

***  To change your email address for Topica delivery of JOTW, use the unsubscribe button at the bottom of your newsletter, and then subscribe with your new address at:  http://bit.ly/JOTWSubscribe.  I will be discontinuing the Topica newsletter at the end of 2017.

***  This week’s Can’t Wait postings:

None this week.

Can’t Wait jobs:  These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website.  Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Can’t Wait postings cost $300.  Contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  Top Jobs:  Stand above the rest.  Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Top job placement costs $100 per job per week.  To be on top, contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (lundquist989@cs.com),   and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.

***  The JOTW network is built upon cooperative principles.  Share, and reap the benefits.  And it feels good to help others.  I call it selfish altruism.  But this also means you need to contribute.

***  Listing a position is free.  Top jobs placement is $100, and a “Can’t Wait” posting is $300.

***  In this issue:

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

***  From Katie Kirby:

After building my career in Chicago and NYC, I recently relocated to re-establish roots in Northeast Ohio. I have 20 years of experience in PR and integrated marketing communications, in industries including restaurant/hospitality, CPG, spirits, sports and non-profit. In my most recent role, I managed PR, employee/crisis communications and social media, also overseeing the development of creative, promotional and digital marketing assets for a nationwide specialty food retailer. I have worked with large and small teams to launch new products, drive consumer engagement, improve brand reputation and of course generate publicity. I’m flexible, strategic and self motivated and would love to connect with anyone in the area as I grow my network and look for my next opportunity! Thank you – Katie Kirby, katiekirby@yahoo.com.

***  Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com.   You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point.  You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list.  And it’s free!  Submit yours today!

***  Changing The Terms:

In any organization, three percent of employees drive 90% of conversations. This three percent – the top influencers – don’t show up on organization charts and they tend not to be like managers. Find them, and you can make internal communication faster, more credible and far less expensive. The Influencer Scan from Changing The Terms will help you find them. Find us at www.changingtheterms.com/influencers.

***  From Sheila Taylor:

Hi Ned ~

Have you had employers send you PR/Marketing summer internship opportunities?  I think it would be neat to see a group of postings for internships in late Jan/early Feb (typically when they post) for Summer internship opportunities. I refer numerous PR students to JOTW so they can follow along and learn about careers in public relations. I call this reverse planning. It helps them learn about the skills they need by scanning the job postings.

I know these students would love to see internship opportunities posted. And career offices at universities and colleges would help to spread the word!

Sheila Taylor

(Ned replies:  I post every internship opportunity I get, and glean many from online sources to post.  I’d be interested to hear what our readers think about your suggestion.)

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,727

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

– John F. Kennedy

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Antwerp, Belgium, Virginia.

***  Changing The Terms:

In any organization, three percent of employees drive 90% of conversations. This three percent – the top influencers – don’t show up on organization charts and they tend not to be like managers. Find them, and you can make internal communication faster, more credible and far less expensive. The Influencer Scan from Changing The Terms will help you find them. Find us at www.changingtheterms.com/influencers.

***  Peak Enterprises:

Hello Ned,

I noticed you have Peak Enterprises as a job listing. I interviewed with them in Atlanta last year and it was pretty much a scam. They were vague about what the job was, then it ended up being placing flyers on cars in a Walmart parking lot. People have reviewed them on Google. Thought I’d let you know.

17.)  SR. MANAGER POLITICAL COMMUNICATIONS, The Fertilizer Institute, www.tfi.org

ABOUT THE FERTILIZER INSTITUTE

Experts estimate that there will be more than nine billion people on our planet by 2050. That’s nearly three billion more people that are alive today. People from all walks of life with all kinds of ideas, but who share one common challenge: each will experience hunger, requiring food to survive. Fertilizer has played—and will continue to play—a key role in meeting this eternal challenge. TFI’s members are the global producers, retailers and suppliers in the fertilizer industry that are feeding a growing world, while improving nutrition security. The industry directly employs 88,000 people in 50 states with a total economic impact of $155 billion.

STAKEHOLDER EDUCATION

TFI plays a vital role in promoting and educating stakeholders on the benefits of environmental stewardship and nutrient science. The association is advancing the fertilizer industry’s sustainability efforts by helping manufacturers and producers meet current food and fiber protection needs without compromising the ability of future generations to further increase crop yields.

As an example of these educational efforts, TFI endorses a best management practice concept known as 4R nutrient stewardship. The 4R philosophy is an innovative and science-based approach that enhances environmental protection, expands production, increases farmer profitability and improves sustainability. The concept is to use the right fertilizer source, at the right rate, at the right time, with the right placement.

Ultimately, TFI’s educational efforts center around two key areas: 1) encouraging the fertilizer industry to adopt a mindset of shared values so that producers, retailers and suppliers understand the actions required to be sustainable and good stewards of their products; and 2) promoting those values to external audiences including legislators, regulators and interested third parties such an environmental NGOs and food companies with agricultural interests. Ultimately, the goal is help farmers increase adoption of stewardship practices and use fertilizer responsibly.

JOTW 44-2017

October 30, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,726

“Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.”

– Oscar Wilde

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  Happy Halloween Birthday to my sister, Marilyn!

***  Our Google Groups list is now at 5,559 members!

This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.”  JOTW is a cooperative service.  That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you.  We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities.  We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other.  What a concept.  Did I mention it’s free?

***  Our Google Groups list is now at 5,545 members!

JOTW 42-2017

October 16, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,724

“A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory.”

– Mark Twain

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  Our Google Groups list is now at 5,545 members!

***  This week’s Can’t Wait postings:
