JOTW 21-2017

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,704

“If the human race wishes to have a prolonged and indefinite period of material prosperity, they have only got to behave in a peaceful and helpful way toward one another.”

– Winston Churchill

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  Welcome to the JOTW network.

This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.”  JOTW is a cooperative service.  That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you.  We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities.  We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other.  What a concept.  Did I mention it’s free?

***  To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.   Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.

JOTW is sent out on Mondays by email with a list the jobs posted in the full newsletter, which is posted online at www.nedsjotw.com.  This is designed to keep the size of the emails to a more manageable length.

***  The position descriptions and or follow up information on links to the jobs can be found at www.nedsjotw.com.

***  Posting a job is free.    Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free.  Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free

I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat.  I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure.  Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less).  “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100.  Just send to me at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This is a cooperative service.  It relies on your participation and contribution.  As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about.  This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.

Be advised that I am transitioning away from Topica and relocating the list with Google Groups.

***  To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com and request to join the new listerv.

***  To change your email address for Topica delivery of JOTW, use the unsubscribe button at the bottom of your newsletter, and then subscribe with your new address at:  http://bit.ly/JOTWSubscribe.

***  This week’s Can’t Wait postings:

None this week.

Can’t Wait jobs:  These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website.  Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Can’t Wait postings cost $300.  Contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This week’s Top Job:

None this week.

***  Top Jobs:  Stand above the rest.  Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Top job placement costs $100 per job per week.  To be on top, contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (lundquist989@cs.com),   and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.

***  The JOTW network is built upon cooperative principles.  Share, and reap the benefits.  And it feels good to help others.  I call it selfish altruism.  But this also means you need to contribute.

***  Listing a position is free.  Top jobs placement is $100, and a “Can’t Wait” posting is $300.

***  In this issue:

While underway armed pirates boarded a general cargo ship. They kidnapped six crew members and escaped.

The remaining crew sailed the vessel to Bonny anchorage. The Nigerian Navy is investigating the case.

064-17   Bulk Carrier         11.05.2017: 1212 UTC: Posn: Muara Berau Anchorage, Samarinda, Indonesia.

A robber, armed with a knife boarded an anchored bulk carrier via the anchor chain. Duty AB on routine rounds noticed the robber and informed the OOW who raised the alarm and crew mustered. Hearing the alarm and seeing the crew alertness, the robber escaped via the anchor chain. A search was carried out. Nothing reported stolen.

063-17   Container            04.05.2017: 0630 UTC: Posn: 12:01.02S – 077:12.06W, Callao Anchorage, Peru

Six robbers armed with knives boarded an anchored container ship. They took hostage the duty AB and the shore security watchman and tied them up. The robbers then broke into the forecastle store and escaped with stolen ships stores. The duty AB and watchmen managed to free themselves and informed the bridge who raised the alarm. Incident reported to the Local Agent and Port Authority.

062-17   Bulk Carrier         07.05.2017: 1840 LT: Posn: 25:32N – 057:33E, Around 12nm SW of Bandar E Jask, Iran

Duty officer onboard a bulk carrier underway, noticed three skiffs approaching the vessel. At the same time a vessel suspected to be the mother vessel was seen astern at a distance of 2 nm. As the skiffs closed, the crew observed the persons in the boat holding ladders. Alarm raised, speed increased, evasive manoeuvres commended and Ras al Khor Port contacted, who informed the Iranian navy. As the bulk carrier changed course the skiffs and the suspected mother vessel followed. After around 20 minutes the Iranian navy called the bulk carrier to alter course at which point the skiffs aborted and moved away. All crew safe.

JOTW 20-2017

May 15, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,703

“We are all here on earth to help others; what on earth the others are here for I don’t know.”

– W. H. Auden

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Tokyo, Japan.

“To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.”

– Douglas Adams

This edition of DEFCON 1 comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

*** Welcome to the latest edition of the number one Defense Career Opportunities Newsletter, “DEFCON-1,” a networking newsletter featuring job opportunities and career advice for those who are part of the global defense, aerospace, maritime, marine technology and security industry.

DEFCON 1 brings you job opportunities every week, and counts on members like you to submit job listings to share and post in this newsletter.

***  NOTE:  I am migrating this newsletter to a new Google Groups List (Defense Career Opportunities Network).

When you learn about a job opportunity in the defense sector, such as a position that comes open with your company, you send me the title, organization, location, and a brief description; link; or contact information, and I’ll share. This is a cooperative network. That means everyone’s participation is required to provide job opportunities to share.

I never give out, rent, or sell my list, and neither does Topica.

JOTW 19-2017

May 8, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,702

“Many people resented my impatience and honesty, but I never cared about acceptance as much as I cared about respect.”

– Jackie Robinson

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

Hi Ned – here’s my pitch. Thanks.

Greetings! I’m a 20+ year communications pro with extensive marketing, PR and event management experience. For most of the last decade, I was on the front line of the nation’s housing crisis as a senior consultant to mortgage banks, investors and non-profits. I handled external communications, PR (including management of outside agencies), member relations and consumer outreach that resulted in seven million homeowners receiving mortgage solutions from 2008 – 2016. During that time I worked with federal entities, local stakeholders, municipal governments and non-profit credit counseling organizations in 29 states on telling their story and improving their best practices related to marketing, social media and media outreach. Throughout my career, I have worked for or advised commercial real estate firms, non-profits, trade organizations and financial services industry corporations. I am also a trained media spokesperson and public speaker. If your organization needs to score some victories on its communications initiatives, I am ready to get off the bench, get in the game and put your team on the winning  track. Email me brad@stonegateassociates.com or call me (410) 303-6391. Do it TODAY and let’s make it happen.

***  Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com.   You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point.  You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list.  And it’s free!  Submit yours today!

This edition of DEFCON 1 comes to you from Auburndale, Mass.

JOTW 17-2017

April 24, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,700

“What is a scientist after all? It is a curious man looking through a keyhole, the keyhole of nature, trying to know what’s going on.”

– Jacques Yves Cousteau
