JOTW 26-2017

June 26, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,709

“Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves; and under the rule of a just God, cannot long retain it.”

Abraham Lincoln

This edition of JOTW comes to you from North Hero, Vermont.

***  Welcome to the JOTW network.

This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.”  JOTW is a cooperative service.  That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you.  We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities.  We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other.  What a concept.  Did I mention it’s free?

***  To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.   Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.

JOTW is sent out on Mondays by email with a list the jobs posted in the full newsletter, which is posted online at www.nedsjotw.com.  This is designed to keep the size of the emails to a more manageable length.

***  The position descriptions and or follow up information on links to the jobs can be found at www.nedsjotw.com.

***  Posting a job is free.    Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free.  Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free

I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat.  I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure.  Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less).  “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100.  Just send to me at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This is a cooperative service.  It relies on your participation and contribution.  As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about.  This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.

Be advised that I am transitioning away from Topica and relocating the list with Google Groups.

***  To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com and request to join the new listerv.

***  To change your email address for Topica delivery of JOTW, use the unsubscribe button at the bottom of your newsletter, and then subscribe with your new address at:  http://bit.ly/JOTWSubscribe.

***  This week’s Can’t Wait postings:

None this week.

Can’t Wait jobs:  These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website.  Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Can’t Wait postings cost $300.  Contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This week’s Top Job:

None this week.

***  Top Jobs:  Stand above the rest.  Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Top job placement costs $100 per job per week.  To be on top, contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (lundquist989@cs.com),   and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.

***  The JOTW network is built upon cooperative principles.  Share, and reap the benefits.  And it feels good to help others.  I call it selfish altruism.  But this also means you need to contribute.

***  Listing a position is free.  Top jobs placement is $100, and a “Can’t Wait” posting is $300.

***  In this issue:

In any organization, three percent of employees drive 90% of conversations. This three percent – the top influencers – don’t show up on organization charts and they tend not to be like managers. Find them, and you can make internal communication faster, more credible and far less expensive. The Influencer Scan from Changing The Terms will help you find them. Find us at www.changingtheterms.com/influencers.

***  Turn corporate sludge into focused, compelling writing.

Your business success depends on your ability to craft messages and stories with clarity, efficiency, and focus. Whether you are writing a persuasive e-mail to an executive, an entertaining story for your intranet, a news release, or a disappointing message to a colleague, your writing needs to be precise, interesting, and convincing.

Ken O’Quinn’s Writing With Clarity workshops have helped thousands of professionals worldwide at such companies as Chevron, Visa, Oracle, Campbell’s Soup, Raytheon, Sprint, John Deere, Burson-Marsteller, and Fleishman Hillard.

083-17  Bulk Carrier       02.06.2017: 2020 UTC: Posn: 03:55.7N – 098:45.5E, Belawan Anchorage, Indonesia.

Two robbers armed with knives boarded an anchored bulk carrier. They held a knife to the duty watchman’s neck and took him hostage. At the same time, the OOW called the watchman, who was forced to reply and indicate all clear. The robbers then tied up the watchman, removed the hawse pipe cover and let another robber onboard. They broke into the paint locker and bosun stores and stole ship’s stores. The OOW noticed some abnormal movements on the forecastle and raised the alarm. The robbers stole the personal belongings of the watchman before escaping. Crew mustered and a search was carried out.

082-17  Product Tanker  19.06.2017: 2300 UTC: Posn: 04:04S – 039:39E, Mbaraki Terminal, Mombasa, Kenya.

Duty crew on anti-piracy watch onboard a berthed product tanker noticed a robber attempting to board via the poop deck using a hook attached with rope and informed the OOW in the cargo control room. As the robber approached the ship’s railing the duty crew shouted at him resulting in the robber escaping. A search was made throughout the tanker. It was reported that nothing was stolen.

081-17  Refrigerated Cargo        29.04.2017: 0408 UTC: Posn: 03:51.20N – 006:46.00E, Around 38nm SW of Bonny Island, Nigeria.

Two aluminum hulled motorized boats with three to five pirates armed with automatic rifles chased and fired upon a refrigerated cargo ship underway. Master raised the alarm, SSAS activated and Nigerian navy called on VHF Ch 16. Speed increased and evasive manoeuvres commenced. The pirates came close and attempted to board the ship using a ladder. Three rocket flares were fired. The Master headed towards the Okwari oil field to seek assistance from the security vessels but seeing the boats aborting and moving away the Master altered and headed towards Bonny fairway buoy. The ship sustained damages due to the firing.

080-17  Chemical Tanker            14.06.2017: 2200 UTC: Posn: 13:44.01N – 121:01.09E, Batangas Inner Anchorage, Philippines.

A robber boarded an anchored tanker via the hawse pipe, stole ship’s properties and escaped unnoticed. The theft was discovered by duty crew during routine rounds.

JOTW 25-2017

June 19, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,708

“Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.”

– Martin Luther King Jr.

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

This is a full-time, two-year term position that reports to the Public Affairs Office and serves as an “embedded” Public Affairs Specialist for the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office (AMNPO) at NIST’s headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland, near Washington, D.C.

JOTW 24-2017

June 12, 2017

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,707

“Do not desire the impossible”

–  Chilon of Sparta

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

JOTW 23-2017

June 5, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,706

“Do not desire the impossible”

  Chilon of Sparta

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Chania, Crete, Greece.

***  One Paragraph Pitch

***  Weekly Piracy Report

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2017/05/29/jotw-22-2017

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

None this week.

***  Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com.   You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point.  You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list.  And it’s free!  Submit yours today!

***  Turn corporate sludge into focused, compelling writing.

– Henry Ford

This edition of DEFCON 1 comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

*** Welcome to the latest edition of the number one Defense Career Opportunities Newsletter, “DEFCON-1,” a networking newsletter featuring job opportunities and career advice for those who are part of the global defense, aerospace, maritime, marine technology and security industry.

DEFCON 1 brings you job opportunities every week, and counts on members like you to submit job listings to share and post in this newsletter.

***  NOTE:  I am migrating this newsletter to a new Google Groups List (Defense Career Opportunities Network).

When you learn about a job opportunity in the defense sector, such as a position that comes open with your company, you send me the title, organization, location, and a brief description; link; or contact information, and I’ll share. This is a cooperative network. That means everyone’s participation is required to provide job opportunities to share.

I never give out, rent, or sell my list, and neither does Topica.

JOTW 22-2017

May 29, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,705

“I’m goin’ to the country, baby do you want to go?

But if you can’t make it baby, your sister Lucille said she want to go.

(and I sure will take her).”

– Blind Willie McTell

(From Statesboro Blues, Recorded by The Allman Brothers band)

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

27.)  Planned Giving Program Manager, Friends Fiduciary, Philadelphia, PA

From Friends Fiduciary is seeking a Planned Giving Program Manager to coordinate and grow our Planned Giving Services Program.  In addition to offering institutional investment management services, incorporating Quaker values, through our  Planned Giving Services Program FFC writes and administers charitable gift annuities and manages charitable trusts (lead and remainder) and donor advised funds.  With the addition of the Planned Giving Manager, we will be able to offer these services more broadly and work with monthly meetings as well as other Quaker organizations to increase their planned giving fundraising efforts. This program and the hire is segregated as a separate budget and program and therefore does not impact the expense ratio of any of our investment fund offerings.

If you know someone who might be interested in this position – or who might have further contacts – please do share this job description; the position is also posted on our website:  http://www.friendsfiduciary.org/about-us/work-opportunities/.    We are open to both full time and part-time candidates, depending upon level of experience in planned giving.

Please direct all inquiries to jperkins@friendsfiduciary.org.

Sincerely,

Jeff Perkins

JOTW 21-2017

May 22, 2017

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,704

“If the human race wishes to have a prolonged and indefinite period of material prosperity, they have only got to behave in a peaceful and helpful way toward one another.”

– Winston Churchill

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.
