I think there was a time where I thought I could grow the number of job listings and the subscribers in the network to a point where I could attract sponsors or paid listings. With effort, I’m sure that I could have monetized this newsletter, but I never spent the time or resources to grow it as a business.

My plan is to cease publishing the newsletter at the end of 2024. A robber armed with a handgun boarded a berthed product tanker during cargo operations. Ship’s crew spotted the robber on the forecastle deck and raised the alarm. The robber pointed the handgun towards the crew and escaped. Master informed VTMS and the coast guard and police boarded the tanker and carried out a search. Ship’s properties were reported stolen.

Duty motorman onboard a bulk carrier underway spotted five robbers armed with knives in the engine room. Alarm raised, SSAS activated and crew mustered. Hearing the alarm and seeing the crew’s alertness the robbers escaped. The incident was reported to VTIS. A search was made. Nothing reported stolen.

Duty Oiler onboard a bulk carrier underway noticed 10 robbers armed with knives and pipes in the engine room. Alarm raised, ship’s horn sounded, PA announcement made and crew mustered. Hearing the alarm and seeing the crew’s response the robbers escaped without stealing anything. The incident was reported to VTIS and the coast guard conducted an inspection.

Local watchman onboard an anchored bulk carrier noticed two unauthorised persons on the forward deck and raised the alarm resulting in the persons escaping in small boats with a further 10 accomplices. Upon inspection the crew noticed the forward stores were broken into and ship’s stores and property stolen. Mobile phones of stevedores asleep near the forward deck were also stolen.

Five robbers armed with knives in a high-speed boat approached and boarded a tanker underway. They entered the engine room, threatened the duty engineer and escaped with stolen engine stores. Alarm raised, crew mustered and a search was carried out. No robbers were found. The incident was reported to VTS Central. 2024-10-01

080-24 23.08.2024: 0430 UTC: Posn: 01:17.50N – 104:08.60E, Singapore Straits.

Seven unauthorised persons boarded a barge under tow. Alert crew onboard the tug noticed the perpetrators and raised the alarm and alerted Singapore VTS. The persons escaped with stolen scrap metals when they saw the Coast Guard approaching.

Around five to eight pirates armed with guns boarded a tug and barge underway. They took the crew hostage and secured them in the mess room. They then navigated the vessel and on the next day rendezvous with an off-take barge into which the cargo was stolen. The pirates thereafter escaped. The crew managed to release themselves and noticed that the cargo was stolen, and navigation equipment damaged. Fortunately, the crew managed to sail to a safe anchorage
