Description
Growing events firm looking for a motivated self-starter to intern in
Washington, D.C. this summer. We are a small, woman and minority-owned
company that is expanding, taking on larger projects and looking forward
to a busy summer. The chosen intern will have the opportunity to play a
large role in the day to day activities and events planned by the firm
and have direct contact with senior executives of the firm. You will
gain extensive training, knowledge, and hands on experience as a result
of this internship program.
Our firm plans events from inception to finish including all logistics,
site selection, contract negotiations, budgeting, marketing, on-site
coordination and more. These events planned for some of the largest
non-profits in the DC area are attended by thousands. We have hosted
events with impressive guests including heads of state, members of
Congress, celebrities, Fortune 500 CEOs and more.
Role:
Interns will work with on various special event projects. Duties include
but are not limited to:
Monitoring RSVP correspondence
Communicating with clients and vendors
Updating of vendor database and files
Working and directing event volunteers
Logistics and planning for upcoming events
Assisting in event marketing
Attending events in the DC area to represent the firm
Updating and assisting in the re-launch of the firm's website
General administrative duties and office management
Location, Dates and Compensation:
The ideal candidate will begin work in May of 2009 and will complete
their work in the fall (September). We understand that college resumes
in September so the last month of the internship will be remote and for
close-out purposes. Interns will work either in the Northern Virginia
office or in downtown D.C. Intern will receive a stipend for local
travel and meals up to $400 a month (varies due to travel costs).

The Associate Director, Education and Meetings, is a key partner in the
planning, development, execution and evaluation of the ASCPT Annual
Meeting and educational offerings sponsored by the organization.
Responsibilities include:
* Coordinate the abstract process, including submissions,
maintaining the abstract database, communication with members and
stakeholders, as well as report generation, scoring and implementing
decisions of the Scientific Program Committee.
* Ensure compliance with continuing education criteria established
by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
* Oversee the submission process for symposia and workshop proposals
for the Annual Meeting, including submission, communication, and
coordination involving faculty.
* Work with key staff and consultants to execute contracts related
to key service providers as required.
* Monitor budget to ensure budget goals are met.
* Work with Director to provide staff support to Scientific Program
Committee and Education Committee.
The successful candidate brings to ASCPT:
* Four years of experience in an association education and meetings
environment.
* A proven track record of volunteer and speaker management.
A self-starter with outstanding communication skills, attention to
detail and results oriented attitude. Must be a strong team player.
