District Restaurant Group is the management company of three local establishments: The Ugly Mug, District 2 Bar & Grille and Jake’s American Grille. The goal of the company is to continue to find great neighborhoods in the DC area to bring fun and exciting concepts to.
Events/Catering Manager
District Restaurant Group has a full-time position open for a high-energy events/catering professional with strong customers service skills to promote and grow private events and catering division.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the events division for District Restaurant Group
- Sell private events and catering services for three locations
- Field all private events and catering inquiries, communicating event services, availability and pricing.
- Work with customers to plan event logistics and manage special event requests
- Draft contracts for event/catering clients finalizing all event details
- Maintain events calendar and communicating events schedule with operational team
- On-site for booked private events and ensuring events run smoothly
- Maintain accurate records of events and catering sales and activity
- Responsible for catering and events new business development; maintaining and growing existing customer list
- Develop a strategic long range plan for event/catering
- Create a social media and marketing plan to grow the catering business
Core Competencies
- Creative, entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to think out of the box and possesses a sense of humor
- Strong organizational, communication, analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to multitask and work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to draft and maintain events budgets
- Ability to sell and network to increase events/catering business
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS College degree
- Minimum of 3 years events and/or catering experience
- Social media and marketing experience
- Proficient in design software
Salary;
- Base Salary of $35,000 – $40,000, plus commissions
- Health and Dental benefits
This position requires strong customer services and networking skill sets. While there is a logistics component, all candidates must be comfortable with event/catering sales.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Robin Hood is New York’s largest poverty-fighting organization, and since 1988 has focused on finding, funding, and creating programs and schools that generate meaningful results for families in New York’s poorest neighborhoods. Over its 25 year history, Robin Hood has distributed more than $1.3 billion to hundreds of New York City-based soup kitchens, homeless shelters, schools, job training programs, and other vital services that give New York’s neediest citizens the tools they need to build better lives for themselves and their families. In addition, Robin Hood’s board of directors pays all administrative, fundraising and evaluation costs, so 100% of donations go directly to organizations helping New Yorkers in need.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Since its inception, Robin Hood has funded the most innovative poverty-fighting organizations in New York City. The organization has made incredible progress, but there’s still serious work to be done: 1.8 million New Yorkers are still living in poverty. As a Producer on the Events team, you will be integral in ensuring Robin Hood meets its ambitious fundraising goals by attracting donors and community members through creative and engaging events that reflect Robin Hood’s impact. A successful producer will remain calm under pressure and be an exceptional project manager in order to ensure the flawless execution of Robin Hood’s events.
The Producer, Events will report to the Executive Producer, Events and will work closely with the CME (Communications, Marketing and Events), Development, Program and Management Assistance teams.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
EVENT OPERATIONS: Oversee and manage logistics for all events (donor, appreciation, cultivation, education, fundraising, among others)
• | Manage all event logistics and develop all event documents, including but not limited to task masters, staffing plans, itineraries, program orders, contact sheets, production schedules, and RSVP and check-in lists. |
• | Manage and track budgets, expenses, and tax deductibility calculations for all events. |
• | Provide updates and timelines to all staff and vendors. |
• | Liaise with venues, technical production vendors, security, hotel and transportation companies, grantees and talent during all stages of events. |
• | Oversee execution of contracts, payments, permits and certificates of insurance for venues, technical production vendors, security, hotel and transportation companies and talent. |
• | Conduct venue and vendor research, outreach, and site visits and manage venue holds on a continuous basis. |
• | Liaise with internal teams on content development for event programs and all event related materials. |
STAFF MANAGEMENT: Supervise freelance and volunteer staff across the entire Events process, where applicable.
• | Direct freelance and volunteer staff for events, providing training, orientation (where necessary) and materials, as well as monitoring of staffing plans and volunteer procurement and management. |
• | Manage junior event staff member(s) and provide training, project management oversight and general guidance. |
DEVELOPMENT: Work collaboratively with the Development team to improve the Robin Hood event strategy and landscape
• | Build an effective relationship with development managers and senior staff to create experiences conducive to achieving designated metrics and goals. |
• | Collaborate with development teams to determine different approaches for event execution in order to achieve success. |
• | Develop and review creative concepts for events and work with development and senior staff to plan events that advance our programmatic and fundraising goals. |
• | Ensure events align with overall Robin Hood strategy and branding. |
• | Provide event-level strategic guidance for donor-facing events. |
• | Maintain post-event analyses (financial, participation, objective surveys) and provide reports and suggested improvements. |
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
• | A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7-10 years of event experience |
• | Highly organized, with proven ability to manage high profile events and projects effectively from concept to completion in a fast-paced environment amidst complexity and change |
• | Strong attention to detail |
• | Exceptional written and verbal communication with the ability to influence and motivate others to action, both internally and externally |
• | Proactive with great judgment |
• | Calm under pressure |
• | A passion for Robin Hood’s mission |
Additional Qualifications
• | Microsoft Office Suite and Raiser’s Edge (or similar database software e.g., Salesforce) preferred |
• | Nonprofit event experience a plus |
• | Open to increased time commitments prior to, and during events |
COMPENSATION:
Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience.
