The Free Job of the Week Newsletter
This is JOTW newsletter number 1,800
“Dreams are often most profound when they seem the most crazy.”
– Sigmund Freud
This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia
*** Welcome to the JOTW network!
This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.” JOTW is a cooperative service. That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you. We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities. We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other. What a concept. Did I mention it’s free?
*** To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at firstname.lastname@example.org. Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.
*** Posting a job is free. Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free. Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free
I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat. I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure. Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less). “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100. Just send to me at email@example.com.
*** This is a cooperative service. It relies on your participation and contribution. As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about. This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.
*** To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at firstname.lastname@example.org and request to join the new listerv. If you receive this as an email from email@example.com, then you are on this list.
*** This week’s Can’t Wait postings:
None this week.
Can’t Wait jobs: These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website. Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter. Can’t Wait postings cost $300. Contact Ned at firstname.lastname@example.org.
*** This week’s Top Job:
None this week.
Top Jobs: Stand above the rest. Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter. Top job placement costs $100 per job per week. To be on top, contact Ned at email@example.com.
*** If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (firstname.lastname@example.org), and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.
*** Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:
*** One Paragraph Pitch:
None this week.
*** Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to email@example.com. You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point. You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list. And it’s free! Submit yours today!

*** Weekly Piracy Report:
051-19 24.04.2019: 0215 UTC: Posn: 06:20.3N – 003:20.5E, Lagos Anchorage, Nigeria.
Three robbers in a small craft approached and boarded an anchored tanker. Duty AB on routine rounds noticed the robbers near the cargo tank and notified the OOW. Alarm raised, PA announcement made and crew mustered. Hearing the alarm and seeing the crew alertness, the robbers jumped overboard along with their hose and escaped in their boat. The incident was reported to a naval patrol boat. Nothing reported stolen.
050-19 26.04.2019: 0330 UTC: Posn: 10:17.0N – 064:42.2W, Puerto La Cruz Anchorage, Venezuela.
Duty Officer noticed on the CCTV one unauthorised person on the forecastle and raised the alarm. Hearing the alerted crew the robber escaped. A security search of the vessel showed ships properties stolen from the forecastle store.
049-19 05.04.2019: 2100 UTC: Posn: 05:49.10N – 003:49.00E, Lagos Offshore, Nigeria.
Nine pirates armed with automatic weapons and a RPG boarded a tanker underway undergoing sea trials. Duty officer raised the alarm and crew took shelter. The pirates took hostage the duty officer and instructed all the crew members to come out of hiding. They damaged the navigation and all communication equipment, stole crew and ship’s property, locked all the crew in one cabin and took the Master as hostage. On 09 Apr 2019, a Spanish Navy Warship tried to establish communication with the tanker. On receiving no response, the warship approached the tanker, resulting in the pirates escaping. The Master told the naval boarding team that they had been held hostage for four days. After investigations, the naval boarding team disembarked. While continuing on her voyage, the main engines had to be shut down due to overheating. The C/E noticed ingress of water into the engine room, which was later fixed. Without any communication equipment that is still working, the tanker was adrift for 12 days before being able to hail a fishing boat for assistance. The Master then established contact with the Owners who then arranged for the tanker to be towed to Ghana. The tanker arrived at Ghana anchorage on 22 April 2019.
048-19 26.04.2019: 0700 UTC: Posn: 12:01S – 077:13W, Callao Anchorage, Peru.
Unnoticed, robbers boarded an anchored bulk carrier and escaped with ship’s stores. The theft was noticed by the duty crew during routine rounds. Port Control informed.
SUS-001 This incident will not be included in the IMB statistics.
21.04.2019: 0900 UTC: Posn: 01:03S – 048:42E, Around 270nm SE of Mogadishu, Somalia.
A fishing vessel underway was approached by two suspicious small boats. The Captain noticed the boats did not belong to his fishing group and raised the alarm. Other nearby fishing vessels responded and chased the suspicious boats away.
