“Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people”

– Eleanor Roosevelt

This issue of JOTW is being edited in Djibouti, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I hope to have something to send out on Monday. If it’s a small issue, it’s because I was on the move.

Wait, this just is…Ned is back in Springfield, Virginia. He seems to be partly awake and will send this issue of JOTW, a day late and a few postings short, but what the hell.

Ned will post some pictures from his trip at www.nedsjotw.com and www.yourverynextstep.com, and even at www.yourdefcon1.com.

Welcome to the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking

newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive

unanticipated consequences of networking.

To subscribe for free, send a blank e-mail to JOTW-subscribe@topica.com.

To unsubscribe, read the instructions at the end of the newsletter. If

you are a JOTW subscriber and changing jobs, be sure to change your

address for JOTW. I can't do it for you.

If you can read this newsletter, then you are on the JOTW list. If you did not receive your JOTW newsletter by email in your in box this morning, it is because you have a junk mail folder, spam filter, or capacity issues on your end.

*** One Paragraph Pitch:

Hi Ned,

Kindly post my OPP below.

By the way, I've been subscribing now for some time. I've never seen so many quality postings consistently from one source. Thank you!

Any chance the listings will eventually include more entries based in California?

ONE PARAGRAPH PITCH

I'm footloose Joan Naidish, and can be yours for a year!

I've temporarily turned over the helm at MarkeTech, the high-tech marketing/PR firm I founded in 1996 — after an eight-year stint as principal at Regis McKenna Inc. (RMI). A month into this sabbatical, I am restless. I want to return to client-services activities, rolling up my sleeves as freelance “counsel” to other firms…tackling their complex or challenging projects.

Over the years, I've “get 'er done” on time and within budget with a dozen “mission- impossible” projects for other firms. After 20+ years in most every high-tech industry sector, my first love is networking/communications (from LANs to wireless mesh, and telecom to emergency-response).

As project lead for AT&T, I coined the wireless communications mantra: 'Anytime…Anywhere.' Motorola acknowledged my work products' quality as Six Sigma.

Over 50 high-profile product/service/company launches earned me the sobriquet of “The Launch Czar.” You can see more of my freelancing accomplishments at http://www.linkedin.com/in/jrnaidish. A year's worth of my hands-on solutions to your firm’s tough client projects is only an e-mail away at jrnaidishfreelancer@earthlink.net.

*** The quantity of JOTW listings may appear to be low these last few weeks. This is not because the market is dried up. It’s because I have been traveling and have not had time or connectivity to devote to JOTW. I apologize.

*** I am writing this in Addis Ababa, getting ready to see the city today and then fly to Khartoum, Frankfort and Washington late tonight.

May 9 – Djibouti: I went to the village of Nagad yesterday to see the Marines meet with the village elder and play with the children. We gave them some soccer balls and water. Then. last night I went to Djibouti Institute to join with students studying

English at night school for “English Discussion Night,” where we talked

about social integration, tolerance (their topic selections), and “What

Americans should know about Djibouti,” (my selection). Americans from the

base go there each week, and is enjoyed by the Americans and Djiboutians.

Actually, few of them are from Djibouti. They are Somalis, Sudanese,

Eritrean, or Ogadens, all displaced and living here.

May 7 – Djibouti: Edwin McCain was playing here last night (http://www.edwin.com/.)

May 5 – Addis Ababa: Cinco de Mayo in Ethiopia is actually April 27, because they have a different calendar. And it's 2000, so I am much younger again.

About 30 people attend the Population Media Center hosted “Experience Sharing on Media and Business Communication.”

Dr. Negussie Teffera, the PMC country director for Ethiopia, was the MC. Bill Ryerson, president of PMC, talked about the “Power of Entertainment Media to Transform Society.” I talked about IABC and becoming accredited. Ato Hailu Aelachew, senior project coodinator for PMC-Ethiopia reviewed highlights of PMCs prohgrams in the country; and Dr. AssefaH/Mariam, a communication research expert, talked about the key findings of the “Youth focused media communication strategy for addressing HIV/AIDs, female genital mutilation, and other related social issues in Ethiopia.”
