•    News Media Relations: serve as primarily contact for all media inquiries; work with Executive Director to manage and respond to news media; proactively engage and pitch media, including writing and distributing news releases; assist onsite media and TV crews, as well as commercial film/photography crews; provide tours of the community to media and VIP visitors.

•    Electronic media: coordinate, edit, design and post information and videos to the community website, Community Broadcast Channel, and social media sites, including meetings, special events and public service announcements. Monitor the online community forum. Write, edit, design and distribute weekly community-wide e-mail updates. Coordinate and maintain all of Celebration’s official social media sites, including multiple Facebook pages.

•    Marketing: support special events and recreation programs by purchasing advertising in local and national media and writing and distributing press releases. Work with Sales Representative to sell event sponsorships. Responsible for researching and applying for grants. Proactively pitch media to generate interest in the Celebration community as a tourist destination, including generating marketing content for public-facing portions of the website.

•    Liaison with Communications Committee, which serves to evaluate and improve current forms of communication to residents. Attend meetings and report back to Executive Director. Assist with production of television programming including community meetings, Parks and Recreation activities and community events. Serve on Community and events committees as needed. Any other duties or responsibilities within reason assigned by the Executive Director

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The Communications Manager should have the following skills and abilities:

•    Strong writing and verbal communications skills.

•    Experience working with media, creating multi-media communications and marketing plans, generating strong content for social media sites, and serving as an advisor to executive and community leadership as well as a liaison to outside organizations.

•    Experience with at least one Web-based content management system (CMS) and knowledge of current Web design standards.

•    Proven success maintaining social media sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube).

•    Experience writing, filming, lighting and editing video content for broadcast.

The successful candidate will lead Global Green USA into its next stage of growth, stability, and impact, ensuring the fundraising, operations, communication, staff management, technology, and programmatic strategies are effectively implemented across all segments of the organization. This is a high profile opportunity for a charismatic individual to expand the organization’s funding base, significantly scale up operations, manage senior level staff, and externally communicate Global Green USA’s mission and values.

The President & CEO will report to the Board of Directors and will work collaboratively with the Board and the senior staff in leading four national offices comprised of 35 full time staff, and additional interns and volunteers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The President & CEO will perform the following and other duties as assigned:

Strategic Vision and Leadership

• Provide inspirational leadership and direction to all Program Directors; ensure organizational strategy, objectives, and priorities are clearly communicated to align with Global Green’s objectives; establish effective decision-making processes that will enable staff to achieve the organization’s long- and short-term goals and objectives.

• Collaborate with the leadership team, program directors and the Board to refine and implement the strategic plan while ensuring that the budget, staff and priorities are aligned with Global Green’s core mission.

• Cultivate and sustain a productive and mutually supportive relationship with the Board of Directors by providing them with information and other resources, promptly informing them of material issues and opportunities that may affect the organization, recommending appropriate courses of action for discussion, and leading the strategic planning process.

• In partnership with the Board, help develop an active, diverse and inclusive Board that is willing to leverage and secure resources on behalf of the organization.

 

Development and Communications

• Develop and execute a diversified fundraising action plan to significantly increase revenue and ensure financial stability from various sources, including corporations, major donors, foundations, and constituency, with the support of the Board of Directors.

• Formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding and development strategies that will ensure consistency throughout the organization and enhance revenue from major donors, foundations, government agencies, and corporations.

• Represent and promote the organization externally to appropriate stakeholders for fundraising and partnership opportunities and enhance the Global Green USA community through a variety of engagement activities, including in-person meetings, conferences, and networking occasions.

• Oversee all on and offline communications and ensure that all communications are aligned with the mission and objectives of the organization.

 

Management and Operations

• Ensure the delivery of high quality services while managing for current and future growth.

• Support and motivate the organization’s staff, interns and volunteers across all national offices and international affiliates.

• Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and strengthen internal communications with staff throughout the organization; create and promote a positive, multicultural work environment that supports consistency throughout the organization’s strategy, operational methods, and data collection needs.

• Oversee the financial status of the organization including developing long and short range financial plans, monitoring the budget and ensuring sound financial controls are in place; set financial priorities accurately to ensure the organization is operating in a manner that supports the needs of the program and staff.

 

Program Development

• Support the Program Directors to prioritize the delivery of programs through existing and new channels and partnerships; support the programs to grow in accordance with a strategic plan and in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization.

• Seek new funding opportunities and partnerships to help scale program work and ensure programs are as well resourced and impactful.

• Improve efficiency of organization by developing and implementing a standardized approach to program development that emphasizes program services and a consistent approach to branding or marketing programs.

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

• 10+ years of substantive, relevant work experience, with 5+ years in a senior managerial role ; prior nonprofit experience ideal; management of a global or multi-site organization preferred

• Demonstrated success in securing funding for and scaling up an organization or a business/program function

• Significant board development, fundraising, marketing/branding and fiscal management experience

• Demonstrated ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills, which support and enable sound decision making

• Record of sound financial management in developing and executing a multi-million dollar annual budget

• Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; ability to persuasively negotiate consensus amongst differing opinions

• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to attract funders and partners by communicating a compelling and inspired sense of purpose

• Strong commitment to the professional development of staff; successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team

• Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree (such as an MBA, MPA or related degree) preferred

Compensation and Location

Global Green USA offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience. This position will be located in Global Green USA’s headquarters in Santa Monica, CA. Up to 50% travel is expected to regional offices in New York City, Washington DC, and New Orleans, project sites, donor cultivation, and press/media events, as needed.

Two robbers armed with long knives boarded an anchored general cargo ship. D/O on routine rounds noticed the robbers at the forecastle store and raised the alarm. The robbers jumped overboard and escaped in a small wooden boat with ship’s stores. Master tried to call port control but received no response. Local agent was informed.

Five robbers armed with knives boarded an anchored chemical tanker. They entered into the engine room, took hostage the duty oiler and 2/E, tied them up and stole engine room spares. As the robbers were leaving the engine room the 3/E noticed the robbers, raised the alarm and released the 2/E and oiler. Incident reported to the local authorities

 

013-14  18.01.2014: Off Luanda Anchorage, Angola.

 

A crude oil tanker was reported missing from Luanda anchorage on 18 Jan 2014 and suspected to be hijacked by pirates. All communications with the tanker had been lost. On 26 Jan 2014 the Master made contact with the owners reporting that the tanker had been released and that the pirates had stolen a large amount of cargo. One crew was reported injured during the hijacking.
